Medical Alarms

Mallory’s MSS, MSW, SBS, & SBT Series medical alarms have been approved by UL to IEC 60601-1-8 AM1 & AM2 (2020). The MSW series uses the IEC supplied sound files and meets Tables G.3 & G.5.

The Medical Alarm models have circuitry (require DC voltage), produce the medical low, medium, & high priority tones, and options are available to issue a non-medical 2500 Hz tone. Mallory’s smallest models are in the MSS & MSW Series which produce 90 dB @ 10cm in a compact 23 x 14mm housing with PC Pins. Mallory’s SBT Series utilizes a piezo transducer in a 45 x 14mm housing, and are ideal for low current applications such as when a supercapacitor is used to provide a short-term power failure alarm. Mallory’s SBS Series utilizes a larger speaker in a 45 x 15mm housing which enables a sound level of 100 dB @ 10 cm, and are appropriate for louder environments such as an operating room.

The Medical Piezo Transducer models in the SBT Series do not have any circuitry, but the user only needs to apply a single 200 Hz square wave signal, and the need frequencies are produced acoustically. The user still needs to turn the signal on and off at the appropriate rate to meet the IEC 60601-1-8 timing requirements. Since these models utilize a piezo transducer, current levels are extremely low, and sound levels are typically 90 dB @ 10cm in a 45 x 14mm housing.

The Medical Speaker models do not have any circuitry, but the user only needs to apply a single 325 Hz square wave signal, and the needed frequencies are produced acoustically. The MSS speaker models produce 90 dB @ 10 cm in a 23 x 14mm housing, and the SBS speaker models produce 100 dB @ 10 cm in a 45 x 14mm housing.

Medical models are available in the MSS & MSW, SBT, & SBS Series which produce 1 medical priority tone, 3 medical priority tones, or 2 medical priority tones & a standard 2500 Hz non-medical tone that can be used for other sound indication needs in the application.
